Who we are
Hard Stop is a small UK project, run by one person, and not yet an incorporated company. We are the data controller for everything described on this page. When the company is formed this notice will name it.
There is no mailbox on this domain, so the form at the bottom of this page is how you reach us. We would rather give you a route that works than an address that bounces.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address
- When you join the waitlist. We use it for one thing: to email you once, when there is something to try. Our lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.
- Which link you arrived from
- A short tag like
organic-p3, stored with your address. It tells us which post worked. It is not an advertising identifier and it is not shared. - Your answers to the optional questions
- What made you click, roughly what you do, and what it might be worth. These are stored in a separate file with no email address in it — see below.
The answers are not attached to you
Two of the options describe how someone is doing — their sleep, their jaw, their chest, whether they have stopped caring. Beside an email address, that is health information about a named person. Beside nothing, it is a tally.
So the answers go in their own file, holding only the answers and the date. There is no email address in it, no identifier that appears in both files, and no clock time that would let the two be lined up. Nobody can work out who gave which answer, including us. That is deliberate, and it is why the questions are safe to answer honestly.
The one thing we kept is being able to read one person's answers against each other — whether, say, people who picked the physical option would pay more. That works because your three answers share a random number that your browser makes up and forgets, and which is never sent with your address.
What we do not do
No newsletter. No marketing. We do not sell or share your address with anyone. There are no analytics, no advertising trackers and no cookies on this site — not a cookie banner's worth, none at all.
How long we keep it
Your email address until you ask us to delete it, or until this waitlist closes without a product — then we delete the file. The anonymous answers are kept while we are still deciding what to build, and they cannot be traced back to you in the meantime.
Where it is held
On a single server in Manchester, in the United Kingdom, run by us. It is not copied to any third-party service. The one exception is a request you send with the form below: so that it actually gets read, it is also forwarded to us through a messaging app, which may handle it outside the UK. Nothing else leaves the server.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent. Use the form below and we will act on it within one month. Withdrawing consent does not undo anything done before you withdrew it.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. You can do that without coming to us first.
Ask us about your data
This reaches us directly. We need your email address to find your row and to reply — that is the only reason it is asked for.
This is not a medical service
Nothing here is a diagnosis or treatment, and nothing you tell us is seen by a clinician.
If things are worse than tired, please talk to your GP, or contact the Samaritans free on 116 123, any time.
